Ingredients

Sardines
  • 2 cans José sardines in extra virgin olive oil (reserve the oil)
Lemony Garlic Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Reserved olive oil from sardine cans
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • Juice of 1 lemon
To Serve
  • Fresh lemon slices
  • Fresh parsley
  • Fresh chive
  • Sourdough bread

Method

  1. Drain the olive oil from both cans of sardines and reserve.
  2. Place sardines in the air fryer at 400°F for 10 minutes until the skin gets a little crispy.
  3. While sardines are in the air fryer, melt butter in a small pan.
  4. Add the reserved sardine oil, garlic, and crushed red pepper. Cook until fragrant.
  5. Squeeze in the lemon juice and stir.
  6. Lay fresh lemon slices on a plate as a bed.
  7. Place crispy sardines on top of the lemon slices.
  8. Spoon the lemony garlic sauce over the sardines.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley and chive. Serve with sourdough bread.

Notes

Jimela’s tip: The sourdough bread is non-negotiable — use it to mop up every last drop of that lemony garlic sauce. Trust me.
